Ready for School

Well tomorrow is the first day of school and I couldn't be more excited.  The desks are ready, the copies are made, and my decorations are hung.  I have pictures of my finished classroom.

I am expected to have 22 students in my class, but only have 19 on my class list.  Hopefully the last three will be able to join us quickly. 

The blue and white board in the background is actually cardboard covered in fabric.  Cork is expensive here, so all my bulletin boards are cardboard.  The greatest thing? I can take them off the wall to decorate which makes things go a lot faster.  

This picture is kind of dark because the afternoon sun was coming in, but this is my desk area.  I made some small fabric boards and hung them by my desk.  I can use these to hang pictures and important notes by using push pins.  They are made from scraps of cardboard, fabric, and staples.  Super easy.  They only take minutes to make too.  

I am so excited about this year.  I received my class list today, so I was able to put names on the desks and pray for my students all day.  

In 5th grade, the students memorize the entire book of Philippians.  I decided to make our class verse Philippians 2:3-4.  As Christians, we should be constantly striving to become more Christ-like.  One of these ways is through humility.  I want to focus on putting others' needs above our own during this year.  

In my parent newsletter, I challenged the parents to join me in praying daily for our class.  Would you join with us? 

Blessings: 

21. Our maid.  She is wonderful.  She is coming in  twice a week and cleans, does laundry, and makes us dinner.  Today was wonderful because I came home and had clean clothes, a yummy dinner, and the most delicious Honduran tea that she made.  She is an incredible blessing to us. 

22. A great team leader.  My team leader knows a lot about teaching here and has been a great source of information.  I think we are going to make a great team. 

23. A Godly environment.  We have had devotions everyday and it is wonderful to start my day this way.  

Prayer Requests: 

16. The first day of school.  While I feel prepared now, I know I will be nervous in the morning.  Please pray that I have a successful first day of school. 

17.  My students.  They come from a variety of backgrounds.  I pray that we are able to come together as a community. 

18.  Pray that God is glorified through everything this year.
