Before coming to Honduras, I knew living in Central America would be very different. I was prepared for lack of air conditioning, hot water, and the language difference. What I wasn't prepared for: bugs. Sure, I knew I would have to deal with bugs, but I wasn't prepared for the amount, or size. My roommate and I quickly discovered that we have a cockroach problem. These cockroaches aren't just normal cockroaches. These are big, well fed, roaches. My roommate, Caitlin, and I decided to completely clean the kitchen today to try and help the problem. We cleaned all the dishes and shelves. During this endeavor, we found 15+ cockroaches. Needless to say, we were disgusted. However, we think we have cleaned the kitchen really well and that should help the problem.
This morning, my devotional was about having joy even when we are in unpleasant situations. To me, cleaning the entire kitchen with bleach and killing cockroaches qualifies as an unpleasant situation, but I tried to find joy during this time. I reminded myself that this could always be worse. Some people don't have anything over their head. Even though I share mine with some bugs, it keeps me dry and gives me a place to relax. Because of this, I have joy.
Blessings:
16. I went to a church this morning that I liked. I want to try a couple more out, but I have a good start.
17. Walmart. We went shopping at Walmart this weekend and we were able to get some things we need. It was nice to see some brands that I recognized.
18. One of the Mom's here at Pinares helped us while shopping. She helped us find all the things we needed.
19. Raid. This wonderful cockroach killer helped us out as we cleaned the kitchen.
20. Our neighbors. They kept checking in on us to make sure we were ok and lent some moral support.
Prayer Requests:
14. I know this isn't the end of the road with the roaches, but I am praying that what is left is few and far between.
15. The beginning of school. I will be spending a lot of time getting my classroom put together this week. I am excited to see everything come together.
